Phone fraud is getting worst

Just got a call from 618-465-8085 claiming that they are the IRS, Internal Revenue Services, and that they are filing lawsuit against me.

Why do I know that this is a scam.

  1. A little internet checking and you find out that this is a number that has been used several times in the past by fake tech support. Also there have been several people who have reported the same scam.
  2. The IRS notifies you by mail when you are in trouble. And they generally call for an audit well before any suit is brought to case.

Here are the instructions from the IRS (http://www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing)

You receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS but you suspect they are not an IRS employee …
  1. Record the employee’s name, badge number, call back number and caller ID if available.
  2. Call 1-800-366-4484 to determine if the caller is an IRS employee with a legitimate need to contact you.
    • If the person calling you is an IRS employee, call them back.
    • If not, report the incident to TIGTA and to us at phishing@irs.gov (Subject: ‘IRS Phone Scam’)
